Our educational system at Harrison County Hospital EMS is one of the finest in the area. We provide paid continuing education for our employee's.  We also conduct regular EMT-Basic, EMT-Basic Advance and Paramedic classes. We also have an extensive public outreach program, where we provide community CPR and First Aid programs. We also provide these programs to local businesses and industries at their locations.

Our service has a long history of being safety advocates for our community. Each of our ambulances have different safety messages on the rear of the ambulance. So, as we drive through our community, our safety messages are visable. We also provide car seat checks and fitting on an appointment basis.

As the only ambulance service in Harrison County, we provide 9-1-1 service as well as non-emergency transfers. Our hospital is a Critical Access Hospital. As such, we work closely with tertiary care centers in nearby cities, including Louisville, Kentucky. We have frequent critical care transfers to Louisville area hospitals.

For our employees, we provide paid continuing education. Since we are an American Heart Association Training Center, we provide in-house BLS, ACLS, and PALS to all hospital employees. We also provide AMLS, PHTLS, PEPP, NRP and other courses throughout the year.

Harrison County Hospital is partnering with Ivy Tech Community College, to acquire national accreditation for our Paramedic Program. This process should be complete in late 2010 or early 2011.

Our educational programs are well supported by the community. In 2009, we received approximately $36,000 in grants from the Harrison County Community Foundation, Harrison County Hospital Foundation and Harrison County Hospital. Those funds are being put to use in our new classroom facilities and by purchasing various training aids, such as a high-fidelity human patient simulator and various low-fidelity training manikins.
